From his music studio in the heart of Brussels Simon Halsberghe contemplates the world. His productions are thoughtful, stylish and carefully designed constructions that find their way to frenzied raves
in industrial warehouses as well as intimate underground parties or contemporary art spaces. Halsberghe composes, experiments and creates distinct and electrically charged worlds that reveal a broad cultural view. He finds inspiration in composers like Gérard Grisey, the synthesizer system invented by Serge Tcherepnine, as well as in the books and short stories of William Gibson.
In 2017 Halsberghe started his own label BXL Recordings, which gives us a glimpse of what’s going inside his head. The name – an ode to his cosmopolitan residence feeding him his daily creative oxygen – and the numbered titled releases, 1, 2 and 3 – are vintage Halsberghe.
Previously his work was released by labels such as VLEK, Love Triangle Music and Gentle Tapes. He also composes music for theater, film and fashion houses. The music he composed for the animated short film ‘Kitten Instinct’ was awarded at the film festival of Angers in France.
Amongst his clientele are fashion houses Versace and Christopher Kane. Halsberghe is preparing a series of releases of which the first part will see the day of light in spring of 2019.
